San Diego Interior Design Schools & Programs San Diego seems to almost be inviting interior designers to come to the city. We say that because San Diego is home to three worthy interior design programs. Program number one is at the Design Institute of San Diego, where the interior design program offers a professional-level program that's accredited by the Foundation for Interior Design Education Research. Program number two is at the Art Institute of California, where you can learn practical design skills and build up a portfolio that any employer will be impressed to view. Last but not least is the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Its interior design program balances theoretical teachings of interior design with practical and creative problem-solving skills to prepare you to design living, working, and recreational environments.

San Diego seems to calling all interior designers because the city needs them. Who else will fill all of job openings projected in the next few years? Through 2008, the state of California is forecasting up to 23.1% job growth in interior design positions, building off the 600 positions that are already in the region today.

Why San Diego is a Great Place to Study Interior Design
San Diego, California, has the reputation of having the typical laid-back California characters, mixed in with a conservative feel of a largely business community. This may be true, in part, but you'd be missing out on the all the fun and culture that San Diego has to offer to for incoming arts students such as interior designers. Besides the massive tourism and hospitality industry in the city, which represents obvious opportunity, San Diego has also expressed a cultural renaissance with the emergence of its Gaslamp Quarter, home to fine restaurants, clubs, and galleries. Sure, you can party there, but you should also be designing there as well!
