San Diego Engineering Schools & Programs Touting its rapid success and growing popularity, the largest engineering school in the University of California system resides at the San Diego's Irwin and Joan Jacobs School of Engineering. Faculty members are prolific researchers, and the college offers undergraduate, masters and doctorate degrees. More than 150 companies have signed onto the Corporate Affiliates Program. Another option is San Diego State University which has six departments, including aerospace, computer and mechanical engineering. San Diego, which had 32,070 architecture and engineering jobs in 2002, projects to have a 16.6 percent growth to 2012, bringing the total to 37,380, an increase of 5,310 jobs, according to the California Department of Industrial Relations Civil technical engineers are projected experience a robust 22.1 percent boost over the same time period, adding 190 jobs for a total of 1,050. Environmental engineering technician jobs are also projected for intense expansion, enlarging 41.7 percent, or 50 jobs, to 170 positions.
